Our Hiring Process
- Stage 1
Applied
Applying for our roles is easy.
All our vacancies have a closing date on them. Sometimes, hiring managers will give you a call to ask a bit more about your experience before inviting you to an interview. We'll always arrange this with you in advance.
Once you submit your application, we’ll send you an email to confirm that we have received it. If you haven’t received an email from us, please check your junk or spam mailbox. If there’s still no email it means we haven’t received your application and you should send it again.
We’ll always let you know the outcome of your application. We will always give feedback to anyone who is shortlisted for interview with us. Usually, we're unable to provide feedback to anyone who doesn't get to interview stage.

- Stage 2
Shortlisting
We use an anonymous shortlisting process for initial applications. This means that when you apply, the hiring manager cannot see any of your personal details, for example, your name, your contact details, or any equality and diversity data that you provide.
Our hiring team will shortlist based on how well each applicant matches the person specification.

- Stage 3
Initial phone call with hiring manager
Sometimes, hiring managers will give you a call to ask a bit more about your experience before inviting you to an interview. We'll always arrange this with you in advance, and this is usually a telephone call.
- Stage 4
Panel Interview
We usually have a maximum of a two-stage process if you are shortlisted, and we'll outline what these are for each role. Our interviews are either held in person at our office in Bride Lane London, or virtually via Microsoft Teams. If there is a task as part of the interview process, we’ll make sure you have all the details for that in advance.
We know interviewing can be nerve-wracking! We want you to be able to give your best during your conversations with us. We always ask about values as part of our process, so make sure you’ve had a look at these, and that they resonate with you. We will also always ask a question about equality, diversity and inclusion.

Often, we’ll ask you to give us an example of how you’re approached something, or how you might approach a situation. One way of setting out an answer is to use the STAR method:
Situation •Describe the background or context
Task •Describe the task or challenge you were faced with
Action •Explain the action you took, and how and why you did it
Result •Describe how it ended, what you accomplished and what you learned from the situation. Relate the skill or ability you’re illustrating back to the role you’re applying for and explain why it’s useful

All of our vacancies will show the salary or salary range we are able to offer for each role. We will never ask you to share your current salary details with us.
If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made as part of the application process, please email us on HR@rheumatology.org.uk and we’ll discuss this further with you. Please let us know if there is anything that would make either applying or interviewing for a role easier, we'd be more than happy to talk about this with you.

Great news! If you've been successful at interview, you'll then move to offer stage. This is where we confirm the final details, such as salary, start date, and we'll ask for the names of two references at this point.
