Our Hiring Process

Stage 1

Applied

Applying for our voluntary roles is easy.

All our vacancies have a closing date on them. We might close a role early, usually because we have had a lot of great applicants, so we’d always encourage you to apply early rather than wait until the deadline.

Once you submit your application, we’ll send you an email to confirm that we have received it. If you haven’t received an email from us, please check your junk or spam mailbox. If there’s still no email it means we haven’t received your application and you should send it again.

We’ll always let you know the outcome of your application. Usually, we're unable to provide feedback to anyone who doesn't get to interview stage.
Stage 2

Shortlist

We use an anonymous shortlisting process for initial applications. This means that when you apply, the person reading your application cannot see any of your personal details, for example, your name, your contact details, or any equality and diversity data that you provide.

Stage 3

Interview

Our interviews are either held in person at our office in Bride Lane London, or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

We know interviewing can be nerve-wracking! We want you to be able to give your best during your conversations with us. We always ask about values as part of our process, so make sure you’ve had a look at these, and that they resonate with you. We will also always ask a question about equality, diversity and inclusion.

Often, we’ll ask you to give us an example of how you’re approached something, or how you might approach a situation. One way of setting out an answer is to use the STAR method:

Situation     •Describe the background or context
Task             •Describe the task or challenge you were faced with
Action          •Explain the action you took, and how and why you did it
Result           •Describe how it ended, what you accomplished and what you learned from                          the situation. Relate the skill or ability you’re illustrating back to the role                              you’re applying for and explain why it’s useful

If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made as part of the application process, please email us on HR@rheumatology.org.uk and we’ll discuss this further with you. Please let us know if there is anything that would make either applying or interviewing for a role easier, we'd be more than happy to talk about this with you.
